Time Words and Word Order

时间词语序

shíjiān cí yǔxù

How it works

In Chinese, time words usually come before the verb. They often appear after the subject.

Basic order: Subject + Time + Verb + Object

Example sentences

我今天上课。

Wǒ jīntiān shàngkè.

I have class today.

他明天去北京。

Tā míngtiān qù Běijīng.

He will go to Beijing tomorrow.

我们晚上吃中国菜。

Wǒmen wǎnshang chī Zhōngguó cài.

We eat Chinese food tonight.

Usage note

Time words in Chinese are usually much earlier in the sentence than in English.
