Expressing “About to Happen” with “kuài... le”

快……了

kuài...le

How it works

快……了 means something is going to happen very soon.

The pattern

Subject + 快 + Predicate + 了

Example sentences

快下雨了。

Kuài xiàyǔ le.

It is about to rain.

我们快到学校了。

Wǒmen kuài dào xuéxiào le.

We are about to arrive at school.

电影快开始了。

Diànyǐng kuài kāishǐ le.

Usage note

This pattern is close in meaning to 就要……了, but 快……了 often feels more immediate.
