Expressing “Altogether / In total” with “gòng”
共 / 总共
How it works
共 (gòng) and 总共 (zǒnggòng) both indicate total amount or overall number. 共 (gòng) is shorter and often more formal or written. 总共 (zǒnggòng) is more common in speech and everyday usage.
Both mean:
altogether
in total
total number / total amount
