HSK 4 · VERSION 2.0#26
Using “yě” and “dōu” Together
也……都……
How it works
也 (yě) and 都 (dōu) can appear in the same sentence when the speaker wants to show inclusion and emphasis at the same time.
This kind of structure often means that something is included too, and at the same time all members or all cases are involved.
The pattern
Subject + 也 (yě) + 都 (dōu) + Predicate or other similar positions depending on the sentence focus
Example sentences
我们班的同学也都到了。
The students in our class have all arrived too.
这些问题老师也都解释过了。
The teacher has explained all these questions too.
他们听了以后,也都同意了。
After hearing it, they all agreed too.
Key point
The exact position of 也 (yě) and 都 (dōu) depends on what is being emphasized, but 也都 (yě dōu) is a very common combination in natural Chinese.
