Expressing “Even If” with “jíshǐ”

即使

jíshǐ

How it works

即使 (jíshǐ) means “even if.” It introduces a condition, but the main result still remains true.

Example sentences

即使很忙,他也会来。

Jíshǐ hěn máng, tā yě huì lái.

Even if he is busy, he will still come.

即使下雨,我们也得出发。

Jíshǐ xiàyǔ, wǒmen yě děi chūfā.

Even if it rains, we still have to set off.

即使你不说,我也知道。

Jíshǐ nǐ bù shuō, wǒ yě zhīdào.

Even if you do not say it, I still know.

Key point

This is a concessive pattern. The second part still happens despite the condition.
