How it works

Advanced degree complements describe the extent, intensity, or quality of an action in a more precise way. At HSK5 level, these often include:

得很 (de hěn)

得不得了 (de bùdéliǎo)

得多 (de duō)

longer descriptive complement phrases

Verb + 得 (de) + Degree Phrase

这次会议的内容比我想象得复杂得多。

Zhè cì huìyì de nèiróng bǐ wǒ xiǎngxiàng de fùzá de duō.

The content of this meeting is much more complicated than I imagined.

他把这个问题解释得清楚得很，几乎没有人听不懂。

Tā bǎ zhège wèntí jiěshì de qīngchu de hěn, jīhū méiyǒu rén tīng bu dǒng.

He explained the issue so clearly that almost everyone understood.

那孩子高兴得不得了，一回家就把这个消息告诉了所有人。

Nà háizi gāoxìng de bùdéliǎo, yì huí jiā jiù bǎ zhège xiāoxi gàosu le suǒyǒu rén.

That child was extremely happy and told everyone the news as soon as he got home.
