Comparing “yìngfù” and “chǔlǐ”
应付 vs 处理
Comparison section · original #45 · level order #138
How it works
Both 应付 (yìngfù) and 处理 (chǔlǐ) can be used when dealing with something, but their focus is different.
处理 (chǔlǐ) means to handle, to deal with, or to process. It is the general and neutral word for managing a problem, matter, task, or situation.
应付 (yìngfù) means to cope with, to deal with, or sometimes to handle in a temporary / not fully serious way. It often emphasizes reacting to pressure, difficulty, or a situation that needs to be managed. In some contexts, it can also imply doing something only superficially.
So the basic difference is:
处理 (chǔlǐ) = handle / process, neutral and broad
应付 (yìngfù) = cope with / manage under pressure, sometimes superficial

Key point
If the meaning is neutral, complete, and serious handling, 处理 (chǔlǐ) is usually better. If the meaning is coping under pressure or dealing with something temporarily, 应付 (yìngfù) is often more natural.
