Expressing “Even If...” with “nǎpà”
哪怕……也……
How it works
哪怕……也…… (nǎpà...yě...) means “even if...” It is often used when the condition is very small, very weak, or very extreme, but the result still remains true.
It often gives a stronger emotional or rhetorical effect than plain 如果 (rúguǒ).
Example sentences
哪怕只有一点儿希望,我们也不能轻易放弃。
Even if there is only a little hope, we still cannot give up easily.
哪怕再困难,他也没有想过退缩。
Even if it was extremely difficult, he never thought of shrinking back.
哪怕只是去看一眼,我也想亲自去确认一下。
Even if it is only to take one quick look, I still want to go check it myself.
Key point
哪怕 (nǎpà) often emphasizes even the smallest or hardest condition.
